Our search for some of the best independent bookstores in the United States takes us to the American Southwest this time. Geronimo’s Books is located in this amazing building in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This city of 90,000 residents is the capital of the state. And, for trivia lovers, it is the oldest state capital in the country.….founded in 1610!

The folks in Santa Fe love their bookstores and none more so than Geronimo’s Books!

The owners. Phil Geronimo and Lauren Ayers, have brought this southwest city a friendly, welcoming, and lively bookstore for all ages to enjoy.

Geronimo’s Books carries first run, gently used, and paperback books with agreeable prices on all of them. It is a “literary center” of sorts in that it provides events for its patrons, and many public events for the general public to enjoy. These include frequent author appearances.

Below poet Christo Apache reads from his works:

Deborah Taffa is a National Book Award finalist and she did a reading here, too!

If you are looking for any reading material regarding Santa Fe, the American Southwest and other regional topics, Geronimo’s Books has a wide variety to choose from:

Phil and Lauren are good neighbors to their greater Santa Fe neighborhoods, too. This is one of the “Little Libraries” that Geronimo’s Books sponsors and caretakes. Even though the city would be considered a “small city” they have more than 40 of these little free book libraries within the city limits. Yes, they do love their books in Santa Fe!

The next time your travels take you through this gorgeous part of America, stop by Geronimo’s Books and support this great little independent bookstore!

Come for the books, stay for the historic grandeur of Santa Fe! Take a look…..

Santa Fe is without a doubt a contender for the top of your bucket list travel ideas. The ambiance, architecture, food, and the people all make this charming city in the American Southwest a fascinating place to visit. While here, pay tribute to two legendary Americans. Both female. Both with highly recognizable names. One was one of our great American writers who wrote “her best book” here, and the other is a famous artist whose paintings are in the best museums around the world.
