The Green Toad Bookstore is the largest independent bookstore between the cities of Binghamton and Schenectady, New York (a distance of about 125 miles through Central New York). The store is a very popular shop for locals, tourists, college students and book lovers of all stripes, and they also carry an extensive supply of gifts, souvenirs, and unique “book-themed” items.
You can always find the best of the newest books available in the Green Toad, including a complete inventory of New York Times bestsellers.
And since Cooperstown, NY and the Baseball Hall of Fame are just minutes “up the road,” you can always find some very interesting baseball books on the shelves.
They have the cutest little children’s area in the back. This area is full of whimsical titles that little ones adore. Doesn’t this look like a cozy place to curl up and read to your tot? The sun shining through the large old windows will make you feel like you are right at home!
The “Toad” is a popular stop for author readings, musical events, and book clubs.

Known for having “the most beautiful front windows” along this college city’s Main Street, the Green Toad is always busy, fun, and exciting. Some of that can be credited to being right next door to one of Otsego County’s most popular coffee shops, the famous Latte Lounge, which not only is right next door to the Toad but is also connected to it inside with an arched opening. Bookstore and coffee shop. Perfect!
Congratulations to owner Jim Havener who is celebrating more than 10 years of excellent service to his community providing Central New York with a memorable book destination. Some say the Green Toad is the “Heart of Oneonta.” We agree.
