McPherson, Kansas looks like it could have been painted by an intenerate artist just passing through the remote, rural center of the state of Kansas. The city has some popular retail mom-and-pop shops along the pretty Main Street. One of the loveliest little stores in town is the Twice Told Tales used bookstore.
The bookstore is well-supplied with gently used and new hard and softcover books and is a familiar place where folks just gather, young and old, to keep abreast of what’s happening in McPherson. It is charming
The bookstore is located in a historic building in this old city, whose founding dates back to just after the Civil War, 1870. In fact the city’s namesake is Union General James Birdseye McPherson. He was the second highest ranking Union officer to be killed in the war.
The bookstore has a large area of history, local history, romance, mystery, and a very nice children’s section with an ever rotating list of titles for the younger set. And….you never know who might turn up in the kids section! Maybe a children’s book favorite like Belle from “Beauty and the Beast”…
The staff always keeps things interesting at Twice Told Tales with creative “themes” throughout the store. How about “Blind Date Books!”
Buy a bookstore mug and brew up some of their classic book-themed tea!

There is a lot of history and beauty to be found in the area of McPherson, Kansas, which is 60 miles north of Wichita. We congratulate Katelyn Cortez and the staff of Twice Told Tales for keeping booklovers in their happy place in this wide open part of the United States. The bookstore’s mission is: “Focusing on making reading fun and affordable and creating a greater sense of community.”

McPherson, Kansas
If you get a chance to visit, there are plenty of amazing buildings to see on a walk-around of McPherson. Take a look at three of them, plus the town’s college, and (for laughs) the World’s Largest Chimney Sweep (Guinness Book of World Records says so!)
